Zoë Johnson

Leveraging over 25 years of experience in immune-mediated diseases, Zoë is responsible for leading the scientific direction and strategic planning for the creation of new companies. She has guided both small and large molecule drug discovery programs from preclinical research and into clinical development in diseases including oncology, autoimmunity, and inflammation.

Zoë earned her Ph.D. in pharmacology from King’s College London and received her honours degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Manchester. In her prior positions, she has exhibited exceptional leadership skills, overseeing high-performing teams at prominent pharmaceutical companies such as UCB and Merck, as well as within start-up to mid-sized biotech companies including Novimmune, iOnctura, and Affivant.

Shelley Cook

Shelley has built out and led Operations and championed a culture to support high-performing teams in a number of growing Biotechs and business units. She also has demonstrable Strategic, Licencing and Alliance Management experience at senior level. Prior to this, Shelley was a Life Science Equity Research Analyst. She graduated with a BA and MSc in Bioscience and DPhil in Emerging Tropical Viruses from University of Oxford, UK, and completed her post-doctoral studies as a Sir Henry Wellcome Fellow at the Natural History Museum, UK and Aix Marseille Université, France.

Tom McCarthy

Tom is a Co-Founder and Executive Chairperson of M:M Bio Limited and brings over 25 years of experience in drug discovery, development and commercialization to the team. M:M Bio Limited (Molecule 2 Medicine), is a U.K.-based biotechnology hub that leverages its unique ecosystem to build enduring, commercially orientated drug discovery and development companies. Tom is also Co-Founder and Executive Chair of three additional biotechnology companies that are part of the overall M:M Bio hub; Grey Wolf Therapeutics, ThirtyFiveBio and Pathios Therapeutics. His additional roles include Chairperson of Orbit Discovery and Venture Partner at Brandon Capital. Prior to his leadership positions within the M:M Bio hub, he was President and CEO of Spinifex Pharmaceuticals, a private VC backed US/Australian biotech company developing first in class treatments for chronic pain, devoid of central nervous system side-effects. Spinifex Pharmaceuticals was purchased by Novartis in 2015 for approximately US$700 million. Previous positions include Vice President of Drug Development at Starpharma Holdings Limited (Australia). He holds BSc (Hons) and PhD degrees from Monash University, Australia and completed his postdoctoral training at The University of Oxford.

Andrea Nisbet

With over 25 years working as an HR specialist, Andrea has successfully delivered projects around organisation design, TUPE, large scale redundancies, performance design, culture and employee engagement, leadership and employee development. Previously, Andrea worked for Berendsen UK Ltd as HR Director for the Hospitality Business Line where she was responsible for the HR function for 3000 employees across UK, Ireland, Denmark and Sweden. Andrea is a Chartered Member of the CIPD, a Mental Health First Aider and a registered practitioner in DISC and Hogan psychometric testing.

Lisa Shoesmith

Lisa is Director of Finance at M:M Bio. Having completed a BA (Hons) in Accountancy & Management Control, Lisa qualified as a Chartered Accountant ICAEW with Mazars in 2000. Since qualifying, Lisa has held various finance and operational roles within both the private and public sector with a focus on working with SMEs and she brings this experience with her to her role here.

Mitul Patel

Dr. Mitul Patel is a Head of Bioinformatics at M:M Bio where he works with the ecosystem to provide Bioinformatics services. His focus areas are : Bioinformatics infrastructure, pipeline development, big data analysis and software development.

Prior to M:M Bio, Mitul was the Head of Bioinformatics at BerGenBio where he worked on several clinical trials leading translational analysis to provide new insights into pharmacodynamic and predictive biomarkers, and managing the Bioinformatics team. He has also held senior positions at Engitix and Immunocore where he was involved in several big data projects, utilizing and analyzing Omics data from next-generation sequencing projects and databases. He developed many computational pipelines and software applications to analyse RNAseq, TCR, whole exome and Single-cell data in immuno-oncology/fibrosis, including the application of machine learning/AI. Mitul received his Bachelor’s in Bioinformatics in India before emigrating to the UK to obtain M.Sc in Bioinformatics from the University of Wolverhampton and Ph.D. in advanced Bioinformatics from the University of Greenwich. With Bioinformatics roots, Mitul has worked in genomics for nearly 10 years and presented his research at several national and international meetings and has published several peer-reviewed papers.

Sam Harris

Sam Harris is the Company Secretary & Operations Manager for M:M Bio. She graduated from Aston University in 1999 with a BSc with Honours degree in International Business and Modern Languages (French), which included a year at one of France’s top Business Schools – EDHEC. Since leaving University she has spent the last 20yrs of her career providing EA & operational support to C Suite Executives and their Leadership teams, ensuring the smooth running of their businesses incorporating all aspects of people, places and processes. Sam has worked in several industries including Consumer Packaging, Mobile software, Information Technology, and prior to joining M:M Bio, 7 years within the advertising technology sector.

Andy Braithwaite

Andy is the Head of IT and Data Security at M:M Bio. He has over 20 years of experience in the IT sector.

In his role, he is responsible for maintaining security and developing the IT systems of the M:M ecosystem supporting the IT operations of the wider group.

Previously, Andy has led the IT service for various organisations including a multinational engineering company, a residential special needs school and a national trade association.

Justine Norman

Justine is the Head of Quality at M:M Bio Limited and has a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology.

Phill Craig

Phill is the Business Intelligence Manager for M:M Bio where he provides commercial insight for the group. In his role, he is responsible for strategy, market & financial analytics, and competitive intelligence. Phill has a background in consumer business and tech, working in large multinational companies in a variety of commercial sales and project management roles, as well and more recently in the Canadian tech startup ecosystem as product manager.

Originally from New Zealand, Phill holds an MBE (Bioscience Enterprise) from the University of Cambridge, and BSCs from the University of Otago in Chemistry and Business.

Danish Memon

Danish is a lead bioinformatician in M:M Bio where he provides insights from large datasets to understand the biology and therapeutic potential of drug targets in oncology space. He has several years of experience consulting with biotech companies for target identification, evaluation of valuable drug assets, disease indication selection and biomarker development for clinical trials.

Prior to this, Danish completed his postdoctoral training in the University of Cambridge and the European Bioinformatics Institute where he worked on integration of multi-omics data to address key questions related to genomic regulation of signalling networks in cancer and characterization of the tumour-immune microenvironment in treatment-naive and treatment-resistant patient populations. Originally from India, Danish has a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and a master’s degree in Bioinformatics. He moved to the UK to pursue doctoral studies in computational oncology in the University of Manchester.

Faraz Khan

Faraz is a Senior Bioinformatician at M:M Bio Ltd. He is responsible for the development of bioinformatic pipelines and novel computational methods for diverse multi-omic datasets to provide unique biological insight for ongoing drug discovery and development programs. His passion is to use computational approaches to understand complex diseases, with an aim to deliver first-in-class medicines, ultimately improving patient lives. He has over 5 years of experience, which includes working for both biotech industry and academic sectors, where he provided computational expertise in the biomarker identification to understand disease mechanisms. Faraz attained MRes, PhD degrees from the University of Nottingham, UK.

Sam Humphrey

Sam is a Bioinformatician who uses computational methods to interrogate big data sets that describe cancer biology. He aims to identify novel therapeutic targets and understand biological mechanisms through the application of novel pipelines and algorithms to complex datasets.

Previously, Sam built highly parallelised bespoke pipelines to analyse next generation sequencing data over high-performance computing clusters and performed downstream data analysis for a biobank of patient derived cancer cells. Sam obtained a master’s degree in physics from the University of Manchester before pursuing his PhD at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, where he built an algorithm that identified clinically relevant, but previously overlooked, mutations in lung cancer.

Ionut Dragomir

Ionut is a Senior Data Scientist at M:M Bio. In his role, Ionut is supporting exploratory analysis and data mining using computational learning techniques within the Scientific Community.
Before joining M:M Bio, Ionut worked for Achilles Therapeutics in London, supporting data analysis and software development within two major clinical trials. During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ionut worked at Charles River in Cambridge, where he proudly committed his time for improving the UK testing capacity through data-driven decisions.
Ionut holds an MSc in Bioinformatics from the University of Birmingham, followed by an internship at Cambridge Cancer Genomics where he applied machine learning concepts for gathering insights into cancer growth mechanisms. Prior to this, Ionut studied Biochemistry at the University of Southampton where he focused on using data mining for assessing signalling pathways interactions in colorectal cancer.

Rahul Ravendran

Rahul is a System Developer at M:M Bio, developing and supporting AWS/LINUX environments across the ecosystem. Originally from India, Rahul has a Bachelors degree in Computer science from University of Kerala, India. Rahul has 8 years experience in well known IT firms such as Wipro LTD, Oracle India PVT LTD and Marlabs Innovations PVT LTD where he worked with multiple clients from Telecom and Healthcare companies.

Clare Sedwell

Clare, a Project Manager at M:MBio, combines her passion for an agile mindset with a diverse background. With expertise in delivering healthcare solutions in developing nations and R&D projects in the petrochemical and biotech space. She thrives in navigating complex projects and inspiring teams to achieve their best.

Georgia Palmer

Georgia is a Biomedical Sciences B.Sc. (Hons) graduate from Durham University and is a Project Manager at M:M Bio. In this role, Georgia leads and assists on a wide range of Ecosystem projects, whilst also working closely with the team on future opportunities and new company creation. Georgia is also a STEM Ambassador, dedicated to inspiring young people and informing them about the wide variety of opportunities in the industry that extend beyond pure science.

Noemi Babos

Noemi first studied for a degree in History, International Relations, and European Studies, following that Noemi became a qualified teacher. Her fascination with diseases, particularly cancer, led Noemi to pursue a Certificate in Life Sciences and studies allied to Medicine, as well as a BSc in Biomedicine. Now, driven by knowledge and a curious mind, Noemi embarking on a journey into Bioinformatics at M:M Bio. In her free time, Noemi enjoys the adrenaline surge offered by paragliding, hiking the Norwegian fjords, and glider flying.

Joana Ribeiro

Joana is an Honours in Financial Accounting (B.Com) graduate from the North West University in South Africa. She completed her 3 years articles at an Audit and Accounting practice where she then did another year as supervisor in the Accounting & Advisory department with exposure to different sectors including Aviation and the Medical field. She has over 10 years experience in the service and retail industry. In her role at M:M Bio Limited, Joana supports the implementation & maintenance of financial processes & systems to achieve accuracy of information for reporting & decision-making across the group.

Henry Isherwood

Henry graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science in 2021. Intrigued by Biomedical research, he completed his MRes at Cardiff University gaining a distinction, with his Masters’ thesis studying the inhibition of ligand-gated cation channels and subsequent release of inflammatory mediators in osteoarthritis. Henry works as a Biotech Associate primarily supporting M:M and Grey Wolf Therapeutics in both the operational and R&D projects.

Katniss Ho

Katniss graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Accountancy (BA) with a 1st Class (Hons). Before relocation to the UK in 2022, she worked in many different sectors including public listed companies, financial institutions and retail industry in Hong Kong with China exposure. She has more than 20 years of in-depth experience in accounting, treasury and system migration.

In her role at M:M Bio, Katniss supports maintaining the ecosystems financial data and compliance, providing timely and accurate information for reporting purposes.

Maria Medute

As People Advisor at M:M Bio, Maria supports HR, Operations and Finance activities. She is CIPD qualified and has spent last 5 years working in Human Resources and Learning and Development in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology companies.

Carolina Queiroz Freire

Carolina is originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and moved to the UK in 2014. She can speak English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Carolina graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science and is a Biotech Associate, Operations at M:M Bio. Carolina supports the M:M ecosystem by delivering professional and efficient operational and administrative support, with a focus on corporate governance and document management. Prior to joining M:M Bio Carolina worked in the Medical Communications Industry as a Project Coordinator.

Lorena Teixeira

Lorena is IT Support Technician for M:M Bio where she supports the development and maintenance of the IT Systems across the Ecosystem.

Originally from Brazil, she has a BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Brasilia, a Postgraduate Diploma in Oncology Care from the Federal University of Sao Paulo and 5 years experience in Healthcare. Lorena has recently completed the AWS re/Start programme and has an AWS Cloud Practitioner Certificate.

Sean Carroll

Sean is an International Business BSc (Hons) graduate from Oxford Brookes University and is Executive Assistant & Office Manager at M:M Bio. Sean has over 10 years experience in hospitality and customer relations, as well as supporting C-Suite executives across both public and private sector organisations. Sean also acts as Operational Support across the M:M Bio ecosystem.

Sam Jeskins

With more than 30 years of experience, Sam has a proven track record of providing EA support to C-Suite executives across multiple industries within both private and public sectors.

In her role as Executive Assistant, she identifies and reacts to operational needs and alleviates pressure points. Working with internal and external stakeholders she manages a diverse range of resources to quickly assess and prioritise situations, planning and implementing actions efficiently.

Nouritsa Biberian

Nouritsa graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a BSc Hons in Anthropology and English. Nouritsa went on to have a diverse career in London as an Executive Assistant for over 10 years, as well as doing charity work. In her role at M:M Bio Limited, Nouritsa brings organisation and teamwork across the businesses by ensuring all company travel runs smoothly and efficiently.
